Nishida Fujio

He is a Japanese artist, born in Kobe in 1950. After graduating from the Kanazawa University of Art in 1974, he later moved to Milan, where he continued his education by attending the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. His experience in Italy proved to be crucial for the development of his artistic research, which combines the Eastern landscape tradition with the compositional and visual rules of the Italian Renaissance. The focal point of his artistic production lies in the creation of his highly personal still lifes, in which flowers, fruits, but also tennis balls, cards, and balls of wool appear as meditative fluctuations, suspensions in an empty space. Conceived and thought out in the studio, his still lifes are to be considered a representation of the poetic of the object rather than its mimetic depiction. The poetic ritual of everyday life, an attempt to restore order to the restless chaos of daily life, is the true subject of his works.

Fujio Nishida has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Italy and Japan. Among these, we recall the recent retrospective exhibition at the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art in Kanazawa in 2021; the solo show at the Fujii Gallery in Tokyo in 2018; the participation in the group exhibitions Incontro nel Natale at Palazzo Bovara in 2019 and Energia at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan in 2014.
