Carlo D’Orta
Biographical note and curriculum

Carlo D’Orta was born in Florence in 1955. A traveller and photographer for over 40 years, he has dedicated himself to the study of contemporary art and has completed advanced courses in painting at the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA) and a master’s degree in photography at the IED in Milan.

Since 2009 Carlo D’Orta has exhibited his works in solo shows at public institutions and private galleries in Italy, Germany, Singapore and other countries, as well as at art fairs in Italy, England, France and Belgium. In 2013 she held her first solo exhibition in a museum institution, Biology of the Inorganic, in the Palazzo Collicola Museum of Contemporary Art in Spoleto. In 2015, the Officina delle Zattere in Venice hosted her solo exhibition Beyond the Lens alongside the Guatemala Pavilion at the Art Biennale, which was later also brought to the Temple of Pomona in Salerno. In January 2017, the National Museum in Singapore hosted an event dedicated to his Vibrations series, and the exhibition was then shown again in Singapore’s Bruno Art Group Gallery in the following months. In 2018, the Museo dell’Archivio Centrale dello Stato in Rome, and then the Festival Fotografia di Orbetello and the Galleria dell’IPSAR-Istituto Portoghese di S.Antonio in Rome, hosted his exhibition dedicated to 80 years of architecture in the EUR district of Rome.

He has won or been a finalist/selected in numerous national and international awards, including: PX3 Paris, 3rd Biennale of Contemporary Art in Genoa, Sony World Photography Award, Celeste Prize, Rospigliosi Prize, Satura International Contest, Premio Arte e Architettura Colleferro, Arteam Cup, Malamegi Vision Art Contest, Linx Prize, Premio Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti di Murano (as photo-designer), Enegan Art Prize, Urban Photo Award, Punctum Prize of Fondazione Maimeri and MIA Fair.

In the years 2015-2017, moreover, his projects “(S)Composizioni-Metafora della Vita”, “Vibrazioni”, “Liquidance” and “EUR 42/Oggi: Visioni differenti” were selected to become part of the Fondo Malerba Fotografia Archive, a prestigious institution dedicated to the promotion of photography on a national and international level, which in 2019 also exhibited the photographs of the Vibrazioni series in exhibitions organised in Tokyo and Cuba.
