Turning to the Light

Villa Fiorentino | Sorrento Foundation, Italy
The SyArt Gallery is pleased to present the group exhibition “Turning to the light”, opening on May 15, 2026. The inauguration will take place at 6:00 pm in Villa Fiorentino, at the home of the Sorrento Foundation, in Corso Italia, 53 Sorrento (Na).
Turning toward a light source involves two elements: an action and the presence of light itself. A dynamic attitude is therefore intrinsic to the act. The group exhibition “Turning to the Light” aims to present the results of a research project conducted among international artists, in which the power of the mark and the choice of a fundamental use of light in their respective works delineate, within a global framework and even amidst a sense of disorientation, a shared and shareable response of activation. The artists, mindful of the visual rhythm suggested by Paul Klee in one of his best-known works, Hauptweg und Nebenwege, suggest territories where art points to possible paths—both main and secondary—that can be walked. The exhibition is hosted in the spaces of Villa Fiorentino in Sorrento, an early 20th-century residence in the heart of the historic center and just a few steps from the square named after the poet Torquato Tasso. It reinterprets the spaces themselves, becoming transformative content thanks to the site-specific works presented and direct interaction with the public through performances. Light, points of reference, universal values, shared identities, and the traces of possible maps are all the foundations of this exploration. Light itself, having become an independent medium in the last century, takes on a central role here, triggering a chain reaction. Present in each individual project through distinct interpretations, it becomes a central and driving force.
